Description:
A colorful mid-19th century, possibly used in the Civil War with a maker name on each lock of WARD, however there are no proofs seen on the  top of the barrel, but has Birmingham proofs on the bottom of  the barrel, And Carders book:  "Side by Sides of The World" states that this maker in Birmingham , England made many type of weapons , mostly shotguns right up until the early 1900's but this is clearly a mid -19th century gun, that has seen much use possibly battelfield use as the left side of the dark English walnut wood has a slot cut under the bottom of the left lock-plate to enable the shooter to remove the lock quickly for cleaning, adjusting, or repair, and a hunter would not bother to do that . Also the behind area of the left lock has wood chipped away when the lock was pried out and pulled backward, many times that would split the wood out, this is rarely seen on hunting weapons, but battel field used guns! And not surprising the left lock sticks; hammer pulled back and it locks but trigger doesn't release, as the trigger is pulled back, the hammer is released only by the thimb snapping the spur! The English dark walnut wood is complete otherwise and was hand checkered on the English straight grip area and the forend. The 30" barrels have wide open muzzle bores of CYL and CYL. Due to the number of stock dings this gun has seen action and is still covered with dust and the metal on the barrrels are covered with smooth brown /age patina. The LOP with an iron butt-plate is about 14 1/2". Comes with a hardwood ram-rod and a brass tip .Check my inventory for unusual and rare gun parts and other items. I  work  hard to find unusual items, and  try to keep the price affordable. My   descriptions are what I see, good , bad, ugly, etc. when listing. Rarely do I miss something in listing.  If you buy and item and are not satisfied let me know immediately rather than leave negative feedback, we  can come to some arrangement that will make you happy. I describe items to the best of my ability, however, sometimes it’s a good guess, as I don’t take things apart and sell, I find huge quantities of stuff from other people, not described by them. I think that several photos and several measurements should work for you. If you’re not sure an item will fit, best to not buy. All listings have a return privilege.  Sometimes I travel for my job and I’m not here for three or four days. I ship as soon as I can but  not  always immediately. Please be patient. Thank you for having confidence in me  and  .
