Description:
This is a beautiful all-original and unmolested Marlin Golden 39A .22 caliber rifle that was manufactured in 1959.  This Marlin has obviously lived a very easy life and has been very well-cared for.  It appears to have been fired and carried very little over the years, and is in excellent condition inside and out.  These Marlin Model 39A line of .22 caliber rifles is considered by many to be the very best American-made lever-action rimfire rifle line ever made.  These Marlins have a big rifle "feel" to them and are extremely handsome, well-made, reliable, and exceptionally accurate.  The fit and finish of the older rifles was head and shoulders above 99% of their competition, and the materials used in their construction were the very best available.  Today all of the Model 39A variations are very sought-after by both collectors and shooters alike, with all-original high-condition examples bringing a substantial premium that seems to be ever increasing.  This particular example is a Golden 39A (take-down) model, serial number S13992.  It was manufactured in 1959 during a time in which these rifles were at their very best.  It features a gloss-blue factory finish on all of the metal, a gold-washed trigger, a 24" inch "MicroGroove" rifled barrel, a factory drilled and tapped receiver, a 19 round tubular magazine (or 26 Shorts or 21 Longs), and a smooth oil-finished American Walnut pistol-grip stock set.  The factory stock set has the desirable larger forearm that was discontinued in the early 1960's and both the pistol grip and buttstock are factory-fitted with white spacers and black hardware.  This particular rifle also has the special-order factory sling swivels fitted on it.  As you can see from the pictures, this Marlin Golden 39A is very handsome.  The original gloss blue factory finish is dark and glossy rating 97%, with the only deductions coming from some extremely faint finish wear on the sides of the hammer and lever pivot-point, and a small spot of finish wear on the front edge of the lever.  The upper and lower tang are flawless, all of the screw heads on the rifle are perfect, and all of the factory markings are crisp and clean.  The somewhat delicate gold-washed trigger shows some wear on the face and sides but retains some nice bright color in the more protected areas.  The factory gold-fill in the model marking on the barrel is still fully intact.  The bore in the 24" inch round barrel is flawless and mirror-bright, with perfect rifling and no visible imperfections or wear.  The factory stock set is in excellent condition overall, with both the forearm and buttstock free from any cracks, chips, repairs, or major damage/dings.  The only deductions from the stock set are a few scattered extremely minor handling marks and a missing "bullseye" black and white insert (which can be easily replaced).  All of the factory stock hardware is still intact and in excellent condition.  The factory hand-tuned action on this Marlin is silky-smooth and precise, with the lever locking in and out of battery perfectly.  All of the controls on this Marlin Golden 39A are in perfect, like-new working order.  The internals of this Marlin are just as clean and free from wear as the exterior.  This rifle has not even been "broken-in" yet and it still has 99% of it's service life remaining.  We have no doubt that this Marlin will not only function just as perfectly today as the day it left the factory 62 years ago, but it also should continue to perform exceptionally as a long-term investment.  If you have been looking for an "investment grade" 1950's or '60's production Marlin 39A, here is your chance to get a great one.
