This Model 1837 Naval and Marine pistol is approx. 11.5"" long. The 6"" round 60 caliber smooth bore barrel has a fine bore. The barrel tang is marked Mle 1837 (Model 1837). All the metal is bright with scattered staining. The lock is unmarked. The serial number, 1596, is on the barrel and band. The brass band, butt cap, and trigger guard have a pleasing age patina and have inspection marks. The butt cap is stamped with the naval anchor and M. The stock is very good with a ding at the front of the lock, a crack from the lock top rear to the grip tang and with no other chips or cracks. The captured ramrod and belt hook are present. The action functions correctly with the exception that the hammer can be released from half cock with a trigger pull. This nice example of the first French percussion pistol would fit any French or European percussion pistol collection. SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes |
