Description:
"Springfield Plains Rifle .45-70 caliber rifle. 30" Full octagon barrel. Referred to as a Meacham conversion. Barrel has a folding ladder sight that has a very sporty buckhorn sight, and a German silver blade front sight. Bore is very good with strong rifling and some corrosion in the grooves. Stock has an ebony inlay in the front of the forend and checkered stock. Original serial number from Springfield is 8235. More buffalo were killed with .45-70 Springfield’s than any other rifle. Meacham rifles were made in the mid to late 1880’s which was later than the prime period of the buffalo hunt.  A very neat rifle.
