Description:
VERY LIMITED PRODUCTION MODEL 1936 PISTOL GRIP, 20" CARBINE IN 30-30 CALIBER, SERIAL NUMBER 3XX, ONLY MADE LATE 1936-1937. Interestingly, the Model 1936 was made in two variations. The earliest, like this one has no prefix to the serial number and has a leaf hammer spring. The later type has a "B" serial number prefix and has a coil hammer spring. In 1937 the Model 1936 name was changed to Model 36. The Model 1936 was basically the same as the model '93 with an updated stock design and was offered in 20" carbine form (like this one), sporting carbine with 2/3 magazine and sporting rifle with 2/3 mag. and 24" barrel. Considering three distinct models of the 1936 were only made for less than a year, production was very small for each variant before tangs were stamped "MODEL 36" in 1937. This is a fine example with fine barrel blue and mag. blue ageing/dulling mainly on the bottom. The barrel is correctly marked "SPECIAL SMOKELESS STEEL" plus Marlin address markings. Has the standard and correct buckhorn rear sight with blade/bead front sight. The receiver is marked "MARLIN SAFETY" on the top and shows light, fading case colors mixing cloudy gray with better colors on the left side. Fine blue on the loading gate. Generally excellent wood, tight action and excellent bore. Very hard to find model made during the worst years of The Great Depression.
