Description:
On Hold Sale pending.  I first thought this was a Austrian 1842 but after further research believe it to be a Civil war import Belgian Model 1844/60 Piedmontese musket produced by the Belgian firm of August Francotte who was a prolific maker of firearms located in Leige as indicated by the cartouche on the right but stock that reads A.FRANCOTTE. A LIEGEj. the lock is unmarked and the tumbler is Brocken with the hammer present.  The full 3 band stock stock is in good overall condition with the only marking being the afore mentioned cartouche.  The full length 41" barrel and all other metal parts have a dark brown patina and scattered pitting. The total musket length is 58 inches. Both sling swivels are present but the ramrod is missing.  The caliber appears to be approximately 70.  Two international arms dealers purchased and delivered 10,000 of this model to the US government in the early days of the Civil War.  The tumbler has been broken off at the face of the lock and would need to be replaced or repaired to reattach the hammer.  Shipping will be actual cost approximately $50.00.  On Hold Sale Pending
