Description:
J. Rigby Best quality Hammer Gun, 12 gauge, 31" chopper lump steel barrels feature a wide Damascus rib to a doll head.. Choked improved modified (left) and full (right) (.017/.027) , 2-3/4" chambers. The barrel flats show the Rigby trademark and indicate London nitro proof date 1993. The bores are bright and clean.
The solid bar sidelock action engraved in a fine scroll with "J Rigby" in gold on the lock plates, showing a pleasing patina of case color overall. The water table also with the Rigby trade mark and JP patent use. The gun locks up tight and on the face. Double triggers fire the left barrel first. Restocked at some time with dense walnut of rich amber color as ribbons of black fancy figure and grain play boldly throughout. Measuring 1-1/2" comb, 2-1/8" heel with a wonderful open Prince of Wales grip give a most modern feel and control of this circa 1881 Rigby Best. Length of pull 15-1/2" over a leather pad. Weighs 7lb 11 oz with a forward bias just ahead of the hinge pin make this a fine swinging Vintage Double!
