Description:
This is a truly spectacular all-original Model 1909 Peruvian Military Mauser rifle chambered in 7.65x53mm Argentine complete with the original issue muzzle cap.  This beautiful unmolested rifle is all-matching and not import marked in any way. Between 1910 and 1914 the Peruvian Military purchased approximately 50,000 Model 1909 rifles from Waffenfabrik Mauser.  The Peruvian Model 1909 Mauser was chambered in 7.65 Argentine and essentially an export version of the 8mm Mauser Gewehr 98 battle rifle used by the German Military.  The Model 1909 was factory finished with a commercial-quality gloss blue finish on the barrel, barrel bands, triggerguard, floorplate, and front and rear sights, with the receiver and bolt finished "armory bright", and the bolt release, trigger, and most of the screws finished in a "fire" blue.  The rear sight base was polished bright to provide contrast with the sight graduation markings.  The bolt-action repeater Model 1909 featured a straight-handled bolt, a 5-shot internal box magazine, a 3-position safety, a Lange Vizier adjustable rear sight (the famous "roller coaster sight"), a lower barrel band with a sling swivel, an upper H-style band with a sling hook, a detachable floorplate, a stock nosecap with an integral bayonet lug, and a European Walnut pistol-grip stock set.  The factory stock set is fit with a steel buttplate, an upper 1-piece handguard, a recoil crossbolt under the receiver, an inlaid lower sling swivel, inlaid band springs, and an inlaid steel ID disc on the right side of the buttstock.  The Peruvian Model 1909 rifle proved to be an exceptional military rifle, every bit as good as the German Gewehr 98 in every respect.  These rifles were extremely well-made, built out of the finest materials by the best gunsmiths that Mauser employed.  The Model 1909 proved to be exceptionally reliable and accurate during it's service with the Peruvian Military which lasted until after WW2 in 1945, at which point the Peruvian Military rearmed with American-made weapons.  This particular example is serial number 18457 and it appears unissued and in superb condition inside and out.  We removed a good bit of the original old factory cosmoline for the pictures, but there is still a great deal of it on the exterior, inside of the stock, inside the action, and in tight areas/corners.  The factory blue finish is spectacular, rating 97 to 98%, with the only deductions coming from some very minor handling/storage marks.  There are no bad spots or eyesores on this Model 1909, it is flat-beautiful.  The factory polished "armory bright" receiver and bolt are bright and shiny, free from any staining, pitting, or damage.  The polished rear sight base is also bright and clean, free from any damage whatsoever.  The "armory bright" buttplate shows a little staining at the rear but is in very good to excellent condition overall.  The fire-blue factory finish on the trigger, bolt release, and all of the screws is also in excellent condition overall, showing only minor wear in spots and still showing a nice iridescent blue.  All of the factory markings and Peruvian Military proofs are crisp and clean on this Model 1909, and ALL of the numbered parts in this rifle are factory-stamped matching (including the two action screws).  The bore in this Peruvian Model 1909 is flat-mint  and mirror-bright with perfect, sharp lands and grooves in the rifling and ZERO visible imperfections.  The original stock set on this Mauser rifle is in superb condition, free from any cracks, chips, repairs, or major dings/damage, showing only a few minor handling/storage marks.  It is completely original and has not been "improved" in any way since leaving the factory.  The original factory wood finish is 100% intact and in great shape, and all of the stock hardware is still in place as well as the original serial-numbered 1-piece handguard.  The factory markings and Peruvian cartouches on this rifle are exceptional in every way.  All of these markings are crisp and clean, and the Mauser factory "Banner" stamp on the right side of the buttstock is exceptional.  The action of this Model 1909 is smooth, slick, and perfectly precise.  The bolt lock-up is perfect with the barrel and receiver, 100% free from any slop or grit.  All of the controls on this Model 1909 are in perfect working order, including the safety, trigger, and rear sight adjustments.  We have no doubt that this rifle will still function just as reliably and accurately as the day it first left the factory more than 100 years ago!  This Peruvian Military Model 1909 Mauser rifle has to be one of the nicest examples in existence, and would be an excellent addition to ANY military arms collection and a great long-term investment.  It would be all but impossible to upgrade from this rifle in any respect!
