Engraved, Inscribed COLT NEW LINE .22 ETCHED Panel Revolver w DeGRESS GRIPS

Single Action .22 7-Shot POCKET REVOLVER!

Here we present an Engraved & Inscribed Antique Colt New Line .22 Revolver, First Model, made in 1876 in Hartford, Connecticut. The New Line was a single action pocket revolver introduced by the Colt’s Patent Fire Arms Manufacturing Company in 1873 and continued through 1877. Two years after the Colt House Revolver, a year after the Colt Open Top, and almost simultaneously alongside the Colt Peacemaker, the Colt New Line was one of the first metallic cartridge, rear-loading revolvers manufactured by Colt. It was designed to be a handy pocket-carry revolver, chambered for 7 shots of .22 rimfire, which was very popular for self-defense in those days.

On the left side of the barrel "COLT NEW 22" is etched. The frame and cylinder are floral scroll engraved. This example showcases a set of highly desirable copper DeGress grips containing a horse head and floral designs. A shield on the left grip is inscribed "G.W.G./Troy, N.Y./Sept. 28, 1876". Francis DeGress created the method for molding copper pistol grips that were acid treated and covered in silver. It made uniquely beautiful works of art, just as this piece proves.

The overall condition is fine. The action is strong and tight. The bore is in good shape. The number on the barrel bottom matches the butt. Here is an incredible example that may be small overall, but will make a prodigious impact on the collection!

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
