This was most likely Thomas Turner who operated at 8 Fisher Street, Birmingham, from 1838 into the 1870s. The overall length is approx. 55.25"". The 36.5"" round 577 centerfire caliber barrel has an excellent bore with bright rifling. It has a blade front and 800 yard adjustable rear sight with its original sight cover. The top of the barrel forward of the front sight is marked T TURNER. The barrel has approx. 95% of its original blue. The left side has two Birmingham proofs with the bore designation of 25 (.577) in between and the right has a small crown over 1 over B followed by 1695. The lock is unmarked. The breech has the usual SNIDER markings. The breech and lock finish are fine with original blue, traces of case colors, and smooth plum patina. The brass nose cap, trigger guard, and butt plate are fine. The stock is fine with minor usage dents and dings, no chips or cracks, and a very nice makers roundel which reads THOMAS TURNER over BIRMINGHAM in the outer circle with TRADE over the Birmingham symbol over MARK in the center. In addition to the rear sight cover, two sling swivels, the ramrod, and firing pin protector are present. The action functions correctly. Don't miss this fine Snider target rifle! SOLD Antique: Yes |
