This revolver was manufactured in 1881 by the Dreyse factory in Sommerda. The overall length is approx. 13"". The 7.2"" stepped octagon to round barrel with cannon muzzle has a good bore with erosion in the rifling. The revolver retains approx. 80% of its original dull blue finish which is turning plum. The grip tangs, butt cap, and trigger guard are worn bright. The matching serial number, 3336, can be found on most parts. As evidenced by the issue marks of 69.A. and 2.53. on the butt cap, this pistol was issued prior to its being altered to the cut-away configuration. The top rear 2.5"" of the barrel is cut away along with each of the six chambers (with later added dummy rounds made from 44S&W cartridges), the left side of the action, and two areas of the left grip. The grips are very good with original finish and very light wear. The action, including the safety, functions correctly. This is a very nice early Dreyse Model 1879 that was issued and then turned into an armorer's training tool. It would fit an early German or European cartridge revolver collection or a specialized cut-away collection. SOLD Antique: Yes |
