Description:
FINNISH-SOVIET Continuation War/WORLD WAR II VKT Model1891 Mosin-Nagant C&R

1942 Dated w VKT “D” Barrel-FULL LENGTH

Here we present a C&R Finnish Model 1891 Mosin-Nagant Rifle with a VKT “D” Marked Barrel, made in 1942 at the Finish State Rifle Factory Valtion Kivääritehdas, or VKT in Jyväskylä, Finland. When Finland achieved independence from Russia, over 190,000 Model 1891 infantry rifles were already stockpiled in the ex-Russian military depots within Finland. As a result, the rifle was adopted as the standard Finnish Army weapon, and surplus Mosin–Nagants were purchased from other European nations which had captured them during World War I. These rifles were overhauled to meet Finnish Army standards and designated M/91. Starting in 1940, VKT began production of new M/91 rifles. VKT production ceased in 1942 in favor of the newer M/39 rifle. The M/91 was the most widely issued Finnish rifle in both the Winter War and the Continuation War.

“1942” dated breech. The boxed “SA” marking is for the Finnish Army or “Suomen Armeija”. “VKT” marked for the arsenal and “D” marked for the chamber having been adjusted for the larger ogive of the more precise Finnish D166 ammunition. The stock is equipped with Finnish sling swivels. The rear sight is remarked and provides a very fine sight picture with the long barrel and the triangular front sight. Rear sight is also marked “D”. There is a rare “3600” proof mark on the barrel where it meets the top of the stock.
The overall condition is near fine. Original blue finish. The action is strong all around with a smooth bolt pull. The bore is bright. This example sports a solid stock. Numbers match. This is a fantastic rifle as upgraded by the Finns and used against its original owner, the Soviet Union!
