Blade is 33 ½" blade; sword is 41 ½" overall length. Blade is acid etched in patriotic themes. The right hand side of the blade is marked “Presented/ to Col. W. E. Thompson/ 14th Regiment N.G. P. / August 17th 1901" This sword belonged to Colonel William E Thompson of the 14th Regiment of the National Guard Pennsylvania. He was a born and lived in Allegheny County, Pa where he worked in government and served in a few elected capacity all the while maintaining his service in the Pennsylvania National Guard. The condition of this sword and scabbard is exceptional and is frankly almost mint. Blade is acid etched in patriotic themes on one side and the presentation on the other. Both sides are about mint. The Hilt is relief cast with patriotic themes and gold plated. The grips is shark skin and excellent. The pommel has a helmeted soldier on the face and a eagle on the top. The scabbard is nickel plated with brass relief cast furniture that is gold plated. Scabbard is excellent. This is about as good of a Presentation 1872 Pattern saber you could get! SOLD |
