The serial number is 7888 and was made in 1884. The caliber is marked 45 Govt. It retains 70% receiver blue and 60% barrel blue. There are no wood cracks or splits. The left front wood has a ding close to the receiver. My friend told me it shoots very well and it has a 9 bore condition with very good rifling, bright and shiny. It has a hefty weight of 9 pounds 12 ounces. The mechanical function is very good crisp and tight. This rifle came from the old Cottonwood Ranch, which was owned by Bill Lane the owner of Sunset Magazine and Publishing Co.
