Here we present an antique Massachusetts Arms Co. Wesson & Leavitt Percussion Belt Revolver, manufactured circa 1850-51 in Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts. Only around 1,000 of the Wesson & Leavitt Belt Model revolvers were manufactured by the Massachusetts Arms Co. in 1850 and 1851 before legal action by Samuel Colt halted production. This is a scaled down version of a Massachusetts Arms Dragoon Model revolver which is also referred to as the Pocket. Although much better known for their later production Adams Patent revolvers and various military carbines like the Greene, Maynard, Smith and Warner, their early production pistols are by far some of the most interesting guns that they produced.
The overall condition is good. The action is strong, although the cylinder does not lock up solidly. The bore is semi-bright with distinct rifling. Light engravings and visible etchings are on the frame and cylinder. The grip is in good shape. The markings on the barrel tang and lock are clear. This is a scarce belt revolver from the early days of American revolver manufacturing.
