Description:
#4811 Winchester 1873 OBFMCB 32WCF, serial numbered in the 133XXX range (1883), and as such it is one of the earliest made in this smaller caliber that was introduced in that year. It also has an overlength 26” barrel with a very, VERY nice bore (which is a screaming rarity in this small caliber) which rates at least an “8” out of 10! Nearly all the 22RF s and 32/20s seem to have total sewer pipe bores due to the fact that there were not many small bore cleaning rods available in the pre-1900s, and most small bore guns were kids guns who did not care for their rifles very well. This particular Winchester has so much of the original exterior finish, being about 75% coverage of a 65% density thinning blue, so that it was probably owned by either an adult or a kid that really DID care for this gun. Now here is the unfortunate caveat; it has a well-done (but not perfect) repair to the stock. It was split length-wise from the comb all the way to the butt, and pinned with two ½” dowels as well as the one small brass pin visible on the one side of the wrist. It is a solid and not too objectionable repair, but definitely mentionable and just part of this rifles long 136 year life. Except for the stock repair, this is a very early example of a 32/20 caliber Model ’73 in Fine+ condition and a bore rating about an 8 or better and with an action that is tight and smooth. $2475
