Description:
This is an exceptionally beautiful all-original Smith & Wesson Model 41 .22LR semi-automatic target pistol complete with the original box, owner's manual, warranty card, 2 factory 10-round magazines, standard muzzle cap, and factory extended compensated muzzle cap.  This Model 41 has the sought-after loaded chamber indicator at the rear of the slide AND a 7 & 3/8ths" inch barrel, both of which were discontinued in 1978.  The S&W Model 41 was introduced in 1957 as Smith & Wesson's top-of-the-line .22 caliber competition / target pistol.  They were built by the best gunsmiths that Smith & Wesson employed at their factory with one gunsmith building each pistol from start to finish, hand-fitting and finishing every single part for the best accuracy and reliability possible.  Nothing but the finest materials and match-grade barrels were used in their construction.  The semi-automatic Model 41 was offered in four barrel lengths at various times during the production run including 5", 5.5", 7", and 7 & 3/8ths" Inches, and all Model 41's were finished with a high-polish blue.  The Model 41 pistol also featured a windage and elevation adjustable rear target style sight with a Patridge front sight, a 10-shot detachable magazine, a loaded chamber indicator at the rear of the slide/frame (pre-A494000 serial number guns), and checkered American Walnut target grips with a thumbshelf.  The S&W Model 41 quickly proved to be everything that S&W said it was, an exceptionally accurate, reliable, well-balanced, well-made, and handsome .22 caliber target pistol.  The Model 41 remains in production even today, collected by both shooters and collectors alike. This particular example is serial number A140517A and it is in exceptional condition inside and out.  The factory gloss-blue finish is bright, clean, and beautiful, rating 98% plus.  The only deductions from this Smith are from a few tiny little handling/storage marks.  There is no visible wear or bad spots on this pistol, you have to look extremely close to find anything worthy of even the 2% deduction we assigned.  As you can see from the pictures, this Model 41 looks like it was made last month rather than more than 50 years ago.  All of the factory markings are crisp and clean, and the checkering (matting) on the top strap of the gun is perfect and sharp.  The bore in this pistol is mirror-bright and pristine, free from any pitting, imperfections, or visible erosion.  The rifling still looks brand-new with sharp lands and grooves from the muzzle to the chamber area.  The original factory checkered American Walnut target grips are in excellent condition overall, free from any cracks, chips, repairs, or major damage.  The checkering on both grip panels is crisp and clean, both grips are a perfect match to each other, and both grip panels are perfectly fit to the gun without any wiggle.  The action on this pistol is extremely smooth and precise, feeling as if it is riding on ball bearings.  The slide fitment to the pistol is superb, and the slide lock-up to the barrel is perfectly square and tight.  All of the controls on this S&W are in perfect working order, including both of the rear sight adjustments.  The trigger on this pistol really has to be felt to truly be appreciated, breaking like a thin glass rod with a very light pull without any grit, slop, or excessive travel.  Both of the 10-round factory magazines are in excellent condition like the gun, and both mags have perfect feed lips and great follower spring pressure.  As mentioned before, this Model 41 comes complete with the original box with the factory end-label that is serial-numbered to the gun still intact.  If you have been looking for one of these early-production "no-dash" S&W Model 41s, here is your chance to get a beautiful and complete all-original example.  As this Smith & Wesson Model 41 is 51 years old, it is C&R eligible.
