Description:
This is an exceptionally clean and handsome Smith & Wesson Model 60 Stainless Chiefs Special revolver in .38 Special complete with it's original box, owner's manual, assorted paperwork, cleaning rod, brush, and anti-rust shipping paper.  This little beauty is serial number ABH6470 and was manufactured in 1982.  While there is no way to know for sure, it appears totally unfired since being test-fired at the factory.  The S&W Model 60 Stainless Chiefs Special was first introduced in 1965 and was the very first regular-production stainless steel revolver ever made by Smith & Wesson.  Essentially a copy of the Model 36 Chiefs Special except manufactured entirely of stainless steel, the Model 60 was an enormous success for Smith & Wesson.  The exceptionally durable and low-maintenance stainless steel construction combined with the extremely reliable and easily-concealable Chiefs Special design made it a very appealing gun for civilians and police officers alike.  This model was such a success that demand outstripped supply for years, and the model remains popular even now with the Model 60 still in production to this day.  This particular example is very handsome and in excellent condition inside and out.  The stainless steel is still clean and bright, rating 98%.  The only deductions come from a very faint drag-line around the cylinder and a few scattered extremely minor handling/storage marks that are only visible under close examination.  There are no scratches or gouges on this gun, and all of the screws in this Smith have minty heads with perfect, unturned slots.  As you can see from the pictures, there are no bad spots or eyesores on this Smith.  The bore in this Model 60 is mirror-bright and perfect, showing perfect rifling with sharp lands and grooves and zero visible imperfections or wear.  The 5 chambers in the fluted cylinder are equally as perfect and pristine.  As mentioned before, this Smith shows no evidence of being fired.  The face of the cylinder shows no flash halos or evidence of polishing, and the forcing cone is clean and free from any carbon residue.  The rear star of the cylinder is also perfect and looks brand-new, showing no wear you will typically see even on a lightly-used gun.  The factory original grips on this Model 60 are beautiful and in like-new condition.  Both grip panels are free from any cracks, chips, scratches, repairs, or visible wear.  The checkering is still crisp and clean, and there is no soiling from gun oil or hand oils from repeated handling.  The grips are a perfect match to each other in every respect, and both grips are perfectly fit to the grip-frame and tight to the metal with no wiggle.  The action on this Chiefs Special is smooth, precise, and perfectly "in time'" no matter how the gun is operated.  All of the controls are in perfect working order, and the trigger breaks nicely with a light pull, free from any grittiness or excessive travel.  There is no doubt that this Model 60 will function just as well today as the day it left the factory 39 years ago.  This Model 60 comes complete with everything it left the factory with.  The original box is in great shape and still has the factory serial-numbered label in-place, all of the paperwork including the owner's manual and blank warranty card is in excellent shape, the cleaning rod and bore brush is in perfect shape, and even the original anti-rust shipping paper is still in there in good condition.  If you have been looking for an exceptional Model 60 Stainless Chiefs Special to add to your collection as a long-term investment, this 1982-production example would be a superb choice.  It would be EXTREMELY hard to upgrade from this one in any way!
