Description:
This is a beautiful mid to late 1980's production Weather Mark XXII semi-automatic .22 LR rifle complete with the original box, owner's manual, factory test target, retail hang tags, and even the original plastic shipping bag.  Bought new by the original owner, this Weatherby Mark 22 has spent almost it's entire life in storage and remains in superb all-original condition.  The Mark XXII rifle by Weatherby was first introduced in 1962 and built for Weatherby by Beretta in Italy.  With orders and demand outstripping the supply that Beretta could produce, Weatherby had to look elsewhere for a new manufacturer.  Production was moved to two different firms in Japan from 1967 to 1980, then to Mossberg in the United States from 1979-1982, and then finally to the Howa firm in Japan from 1984 to 1989 when it was discontinued.  During the production run the Mark XXII was offered in a tube-magazine or clip-fed design and featured a semi-auto blow-back operated action in a grooved alloy receiver, a 24" inch barrel, factory iron sights with a flip-up rear leaf, and a skip-line checkered and gloss-finished American Walnut stock with a Rosewood forend tip and pistol grip cap.  The Mark XXII action was designed with a unique switch allowing the shooter to switch between semi-auto operation and single-shot mode.  The Howa-made Mark 22's quickly earned a reputation for exceptional accuracy and reliability from a semi-auto rifle, and the build quality was second to none.  This particular Howa-made Mark XXII example was made sometime between 1984 and 1988 and is the clip-fed variation.  As mentioned before, it is in excellent condition inside and out.  The gloss blue and gloss black (on receiver and alloy parts) finish is bright, clean, and beautiful, rating 98%.  The only deductions are for some very tiny handling marks and two tiny spots of finish wear on top of the receiver from a scope being mounted on it (We removed the small cheap scope that the original owner had mounted on it when new).  The polished in-the-white bolt body is still bright and pristine, free from any stains, wear marks, or damage.  The bolt face it spotless and shows zero wear.  The bore in this Weatherby is pristine and mirror-bright, free from any pitting, erosion, or imperfections of any kind.  The rifling still looks brand-new with sharp lands and grooves from the chamber to the crown of the muzzle.  The original stock on this Weatherby is particularly handsome with some very nice figure and a very pleasing color.  The stock is completely free from any cracks, chips, repairs, or major dings/damage.  The checkering is still crisp and clean, and the Rosewood forend tip and pistol grip cap are very attractive and perfectly fit to the stock.  The factory glossy clearcoat is bright and crystal-clear, and it is 100% intact with no chipping or spider cracks.  The factory-installed brown basket-weave pattern Weatherby-branded recoil pad was perfectly fit to the buttstock and is in like-new condition.  The action on this Mark 22 is slick, smooth, and perfectly fit to the receiver.  All of the controls on this rifle feel crisp and new, are they are all in perfect working order.  This Weatherby should function just as well today as the day it left the factory 33 plus years ago.  As mentioned before, this Weatherby comes complete with everything it originally shipped from Japan with, and all of it is in very good condition overall.  If you have been looking for an investment-grade Weatherby Mark XXII here is your chance to get one of the cleanest and most complete Howa-made rifles we have seen in years.  It would be next to impossible to upgrade from this beauty in any respect!
