Description:
An early 19th century scarce Detroit made Percussion Plains rifle .
.38 cal., 32 1/2'' heavy octagonal barrel with an oxidized and lightly pitted bore. The metal surfaces are a dull gunmetal gray with light surface oxidation overall, showing more moderate oxidation and pitting in the cap splash area near the nipple barrel. The arm features a simple sporting blade front sight and v-notch rear and is marked on its top flat ''WM Wingert/Detroit''. The lock and hammer show very light open flowing scroll, the lock fitting the stock very well. There is a heavy brass nosecap which is likely an antique replacement, a nice brass triggerguard with a wide bow and rearward swirl, simple lightly chiseled toeplate, buttplate and simple single door patchbox with food chopper lock screw escutcheon. The American black walnut buttstock rates very good with a good edges and the expected light dings and handling marks that come from the years with a nice flat bottom ribbed cheekpiece. There is a slight crack at the nosecap and a chip between the tang and lockplate which was re-affixed, showing some  scorching from percussion cap splash over the years .  The lock seems to function well mechanically and there is a later brass ramrod (rod) included. Very seldom do we see Detroit Michigan-made rifles, and this is a respectable rare example. When buying a gun always have it examined by a competent gunsmith  before  shooting. To buy a gun from me you must get a direct email for me, with details, and shipping cost.   We don’t have a web  site .I prefer money orders or a check.  Item ships when funds come in. I try to keep guns  affordable, which means I make less money than most dealers. Well marked on yop of the barrel:" Wm. Wingert, Detroit."You won’t get altitude sickness, or nose bleed, with my prices! I consistently have the best selection of  older guns If you attempt to buy,  you must still contact us for details . Best to email to buy. Sometimes a local person can stop buy and purchase before the gun is removed.  Sometimes not home to get calls. Some guns are required shipment to a gun dealer near you for a transfer to you when it arrives. Otherwise many older or black powder guns ship to your door. With the widest selection of older guns at great prices, We don’t have a store, and sell on the internet only.  I’m easy to get along with. Thank You
