Lefaucheux 12mm pinfire revolver, made in France, with serial number 37801 and thus in the accepted Civil War range. The US Government purchase several of these and issued them to the 2nd Kansas Cavalry, whose numbers fall between 20202 and 34952, so this one is not far past the batch. Typical of this revolver, it has a 6 3/8" part octagon barrel, trigger bow with spur, French walnut grips, lanyard loop on bottom of butt, tulip-shaped ejector rod head, spring-loaded catch to secure the loading gate, 6 shot cylinder. blued and case colored finish, one-piece post/bead front sight, single action with two-stage hammer. All metal surfaces are a dark chocolate patina typical of firearms that have spent a long time in the humid Southeast US. Action functions properly on both hammer stages and locks up tightly at full cock. Grips show alot of dings and scratches but no splits or cracks. Maker name and "Brevette" markings are clear on the left octagon flat. Plunger to remove spent shells operates properly with no binding. Bore is semi-bright with sharp rifling and some pitting back at the breech. Interestingly, when received by the gentleman I purchased it from, it had 4 spent copper casings still in the cylinder, which he removed and I pictured, and left them uncleaned. All in all an interesting Civil War era firearm that grades NRA Antique Very Good to fill the gap in your Civil War revolver collection. TERMS: No international sales.
