The wood is decent except for the forearm having a nasty sliver on the top left front rail edge and just average bumps and dings elsewhere. These impressive large framed ’81-Marlins were very popular and well built rifles. They were Marlin Firearms first venture into the lever action repeater market and the main reason that Winchester was forced to rush production of the Model 1886 and to drop the ’76-Winchester.
