Collection quality Sauerbier Cloverleaf Foot Officer's sword, Newark NJ made.
Clean blade, tight hilt, excellent scabbard. The guard is adorned with a cutout cloverleaf, one of a couple known examples manufactured by Saurbier, proportedly at the special order of a number of Irish Brigade officers granted permission to obtain non-regulation Foot Officer swords with cloverleafs cut into their guards. The two core New York regiments that comprised the famous Irish Brigade assembled outside of Newark New Jersey. Brass scabbard mounts are hand engraved, leather scabbard is pliable and in fine, strong condition. Grip is solid and strong, tight wrapping and wire, firm to blade and guard. Blade is aging fine and evenly, as seen in photos, no rust, no pitting, crisp etching and smooth edge with no chips.
Comes with a collection of research on the Irish Brigade and documentation of the significance of Saurbier and the Cloverleaf guard.
