This 1913-made carbine that retains about 50% of the original blue, mostly on the barrel and magazine tube, with the balance faded to a mottled and freckled pewter gray patina. There are some scratches and marks around the saddle ring, and some traces of original blue on the frame. The forend and buttstock are likewise in very good condition with numerous small handling marks and blemishes scattered about, as well as a crisp "CITY OF TORONTO" stamp on the left side of the buttstock, and a rack number on the comb: "334". According to Winchester records, this gun was shipped in 1914, and were ostensibly issued to guards at Toronto's Don Jail, however, the number of so-marked carbines encountered (far more than would be necessary for jail use) would indicate they may have also been used for Police and/or WW1 security purposes as well. This is a very nice WW1 era Model 1894 SRC, with a great Canadian issue marking, and is in very good-fine condition overall.
