The series is considered by many Luger experts as consisting of guns with serial numbers in the 550-770, each of which has the E-prefix s/n. The guns were likely supplied as an extra series between 1903 and 1904 and E-series guns vary from one another in numerous characteristics. This gun is three digits from the beginning of the known serial number range, has a .30 cal./7.65 mm 4-3/4" tapered barrel and is marked with a Geneva Swiss cross over the chamber and DWM script on the front toggle link. It is fitted with a narrow grip safety and a 10 mm checkered safety lever (safety lever types vary among E-series pistols), dished toggles and an original Swiss wooden bottom magazine with steel disc inserts. Wooden grips are perfect and (correctly) not numbered to the gun. The frame is relieved to receive magazines with raised-head follower buttons. There are Swiss cross proofs on the left side of the frame and barrel underside. Originally typed as an imposter by an Illinois Luger supposed "expert," due to the lack of an "E" on the barrel s/n, its was correctly verified by two Luger collectors familiar with E-series guns from the shape of the "E" next to the serial number, which exactly matches similiar "E" stampings on other E-series guns. An outstanding example of an all-matching-numbers rare Luger variation. CONDITION: All strawed parts are perfect. Blue is 99.99% with just the tiniest amount of wear on the side plate leading edges. The barrel band is unmarked and unworn. The lack of a rear toggle imprint on the back of the frame indicates that the gun was seldom if ever fired. PROVENANCE: Originally in the Ralph E. Shattuck collecton, this gun has been a part of my personal collection for almost three decades. $14,500; serious offers considered Buyer pays $150 for insurance and shipping to qualified FFL/C&R license holder. Usual three-day inspection period. SOLD Handgun Caliber: 7.65x22mm Parabellum (7.65x22mm Luger, .30 Luger) |
