Description:
General Specs: Walther, Year 1943, 9mm, 33.8oz
Serial Number: 3853

When introduced into Army service in 1938 the P38 was a very advanced design. The P38 was the first pistol to use a double action/single action operation allied to a locked breech. While Walther had developed the earlier PP/PPK DA/SA pistols, these used a pinned barrel and simple blowback operation. The P38 was designed from the onset to use the more powerful 9x19mm parabellum round and required a more sophisticated locking mechanism. Once loaded the P38 could be safely decocked and kept at the ready with a chambered round. With no safety to release, the operator had to just squeeze the purposely heavy double action trigger to fire the gun and the gun's recoiling slide would cock the hammer for a easier single action trigger pull. This system became a common design element in many modern pistols, including the Baretta 92 and Sig Sauer P229 series. The Walter P38 was in production for the Warmacht between the years 1939 - 1945. Other manufactures of this model included Mauser and Speewerk.

This Walter P38 pistol was manufactured by Walther in 1943. This gun features matching serial numbers and offical period stamps and comes with 2 8-round magazines and original Ehrhardt holster also with stamps. While there is some damage to the bakerlite grips this gun is a great example of twentieth century military and design history.
