Description:
Very nice late transition era Winchester 70 Super Grade in scarce .257 Roberts caliber. S/N 100*** with matching scribed bolt made in late 1948. Still has the pre war style clover leaf tang. Overall condition remains very good with at least 97% blue over most, other than the usual areas of increased wear such as the buttplate. The wood is close to the same at about 95% showing some minor dings and a slight patina developed over 73 years of careful use. All original and correct Super Grade components are present and in excellent condition as well including SG stamped Floorplate, Proper swivels, Redfield full length gold bead front sight. etc. There was NO factory jeweling on inner action parts of Supers until about 1955, nor any special stamps under barrel or recoil lug. This is a very difficult rifle to find, especially in such nice shape, and being chambered in one of the greatest classic calibers ever conceived, with its very low recoil but incredible performance.
