Description:
This Meriden Firearms 12-gauge, a scarce Model 55, has a beautifully-figured American-walnut stock and 30” Krupp-steel barrels.  The engraving is simple yet elegant.  If the engraving looks familiar to owners of Parker shotguns, the reason is that it was done by Parker engravers across the street in Meriden, CT.

The barrels have 2-3/4” chambers.  The bores and exteriors of the barrels are excellent.  The bore diameters or both barrels are .729, and both barrels have .002” of constriction at the muzzle. (The previous owner had the chokes opened two decades ago in order to be able to hunt waterfowl with steel shot.   It is also a good pheasant gun.)   The wall thicknesses of the right barrel measured at 9” from the muzzle are (top/side/bottom) .028/.030/.0323, and at the middle of the barrel are .028/.030/.030.  The wall thicknesses of the left barrel are .027/.032/.036 and .022/.035/.034, respectively.   The gun weighs 7 pounds 8 ounces.  The wood is reconditioned by drawing out accumulated petroleum-based oils and replenishing the natural oils through the application of a hand-rubbed stock-oil finish.  The DAC is 1-9/16” and DAH 2-5/8”.  The length of pull is 14-1/4” to the end of a horn buttplate.  Both triggers pull at 7 pounds.  The gun locks up tightly.  All serial numbers, 68834, match.

The price does not include the shipping cost, which is paid by buyer.  The inspection period is 7 days from receipt.  The gun has been fired on the range and in the field on multiple occasions using standard target and field loads.  However, as for any antique or vintage shotgun, especially one over a hundred years old, it is recommended that the new owner have it inspected by his or her gunsmith before firing.  The gun carries a 30-day warranty, during which Doublegun Preservation will have any mechanical problems documented by a professional gunsmith repaired or accept the return of the gun and refund the price of the gun and all shipping cost.
