Description:
Civil War Model 1840 Cavalry Saber, no scabbard and no legible markings on either side of the ricasso. Guard is marked "L733" and "39" with the "39" also appearing on the pommel cap. Blade has not been cleaned and shows some nicks from battle damage. Guard is a dark coppery brass mix. Leather grip is dry, has some cracking at rear where it meets the guard and pommel cap, with a small piece missing there also. Blade measures roughly 34 1/2" long and an inch wide at its widest point (at the ricasso). Overall length approximately 40 1/2" long. Has the look and characteristics of a Klingenthal (made in France) and possibly an import or blockade-run item but no guarantees to that effect.
