Description:
SOLD!           I have a 66 carbine that was a late model one of the few that were factory centerfire – less than 2%. ( S# 164445)  It is a rare variant in itself considering that most of the CF 66s were shipped to South America. I wanted the experience of actually being able to shoot this legendary icon of the frontier West. Factory ammo was out of the question.  Henry flat 44 CF ammo is so rare that I have never even seen one at any of the many national shows I attended over the past 40 year. So I began a quest to make it all work without ruining the originality of the chamber or bore or ANY of the original design. I replaced the bolt/breech block and firing pin with modern safer Uberti 66 replica parts. They surpriselingly worked smoothly and flawlessly. THEN – came the hard part – to create a complete safe cheap rebated .44 centefire bullet that would give me the same performance for something as inexpensive to load as a 44-40.  After many trials I decided upon the cheap readily available 44 Russian, which chambered perfectly –but Getting the proper diameter 200gr.44 projectile looked like it was going to be a technical problem. After much experimenting with oversized cast bullets  finally realized that the Winchester 200 grn jacked 44-40 bullet in .426 dia would actually even though it was only a few thousands more than the grooves. It would probably affect accuracy slightly – but it shot well enough to kill deer sized game.  Used a lightly compressed loading of Trail Boss powder gave me Chronographed velocities within less than 5% of factory specs. A safe smokeless powder that would not allow over and accidental loading. All the components are available and inexpensive. Included in the package are 50 44 Russian cases and about 40 loaded 44 Russian rounds. You can create these safe loads for less than 30cents
Finally – being able to shoot an ORIGINAL 1866 Yellow Boy carbine with modifications that in NO WAY ruined the original configurations of this American old West icon.  Small collectors dream come true. The changed out Uberti parts probably were not totally essential to making it work – but it was safer and smoother and stronger that the original.
The original breech block/bolt assembly and firing pin are of course included should you ever sell it in its 100% original condition.  PLEASE Phone me for any questions.813-2430588  ( Fl) You will a scarce ORIGINAL FACTORY centerfire that is now shootable for a very reasonable price – so not offers or trades please.
