Sedgley, Year c. 1931, .22 WCF Hornet, 8lb 9oz, LOP 13 5/8" Serial Number: 163 A rare find, this is an early three-digit serial numbered R.F. Sedgley in a .22 WCF Hornet! This great balancing sporter displays the classic lines often associated with pre-war Griffen & Howe rifles. From America’s Golden Age of early twentieth century rifle makers we offer this R.F. Sedgley rifle in the rare chambering of .22 Hornet. Sedgley built some of the finest American sporting rifles out of his shop in Philadelphia and this example is marked R.F. SEDGLEY. INC. PHILA, PA. U.S.A. Sedgley favored the Springfield Model 1903 action as the basis for his custom rifles and he re-worked the action to perfection. He matched them to new tapered Winchester barrels pre-tapped for scopes, which featured a single band that holds the front sling mount. The classic stock exhibits straight grain dark American walnut, finely checkered at wrist and forend with a graceful schnabel forend tip. On top of the receiver sits a very fine Lyman 48 Adjustable Peep sight, the front ramp with brass blade is hooded. Barrel is tapped for tapped for Unertl type scope. This example has been carefully used and well cared for showing a few handling marks on the furniture with 99% bluing overall.
