Description:
Serial #19919, .380 Revolver, 3" barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a handy little small frame revolver that has matching numbers on the frame, cylinder, and barrel and retains 97-98% of the original nickel finish with scattered scratches and minor handling marks, as well as spots of dark freckling on the cylinder. The left barrel flat is engraved: "R.M.S.P. Co." in block letters (the Royal Mail Steam Packet Co.). The checkered Vulcanite grips are in fine condition with only some minor wear and flattening of the points on either panel. The barrel lock-up is tight and the mechanism is fully functional. The Royal Mail Steam Packet Co. was founded in 1839 as a passenger and cargo line, with a contract subsidy to carry mail to and from overseas locations. The line continued operations under that name until 1930, when it collapsed due to a bad financial decisions that caused a scandal involving the line's chairman, Owen Philipps, 1st Baron Kylsant, which eventually led to his serving ten months at Wormwood Scrubs prison. This is an excellent example of a desirable Mk. III .38 revolver, purchased and used by one of the biggest shipping and passenger lines of the Victorian era. FFL or C&R
