This is a handsome, matching numbered carbine that retains nearly all of the original black leather barrel covering. The leather has crazed along its length, and has flaked along the bottom where the cover flap has torn, but the stitching is otherwise intact. The metal surfaces have an overall mottled gray patina with some patches of dark freckling throughout, as well as some hints of original color case-hardening on protected areas of the frame, and traces of original fire blue on the rear sight base. The walnut buttstock remains in very good condition with minor handling marks and small blemishes in the armory reapplied oil finish, and a dull yellow patina on the brass buttplate. The rear half of the sliding safety tab is missing, but the action is otherwise fully functional and the lock-up is tight. This is a great looking example of a desirable Civil War carbine, and rates very good-fine overall.
