WWII 1944 Springfield Garand M1D Sniper Rifle. .30-06 Serial # 2777887 Barrel marked SA 8-52 M1D. Excellent overall condition, original M1D as sold through the CMP. Includes CMP Certificate dated June 13, 2015, with production scope mount and M82 scope. Barrel 26" Manufactured between March 1943 to April 1944. this Springfield Armory M1-D Garand is an iconic piece of U.S. military history. Two telescope-mounted versions of the M1 rifle were developed at Springfield Armory for use by snipers, designated the M1C and M1D. Featuring a dark walnut stock, marking on the top of the receiver reading “U.S. Rifle – Cal. 30M1 – Springfield Armory” and has additional paperwork included. The M1D utilized a machined base fitted around the chamber end of the barrel and secured with a pin to attach the telescope mount. Included with this rifle is a classic, small diameter scope with a single line, bottom-up reticle, representing magnified shooting in its infancy. While it is unknown exactly how many M1s were converted to M1-Ds in the 1940’s, gun experts have placed estimates at over 15,000. Collectors consider proper CMP or DCM release papers to be one of the few ways to verify an M1D’s authenticity, due to many being unofficially assembled. Gun unfired since armory.
