Description:
SOLD A 19th century, about .32 cal., 18'' octagon barrel, with an oxidized bore. The barrel is unmarked, has simple dovetail front and rear sights and is an overall brown oxidized patina. The lock plate has an interesting pivoting hammer mounted to a stud at the center of the lock with an external hammer spring and a side-mounted nipple. Comes with a hardwood ram-rod and a brass tip. It is completely unmarked but strong and well made for everday use. The maple stock has a pewter buttplate and scant left-side cheekpiece and rates perhaps good with multiple small cracks, dings and repaired toe. There are four star-shaped brass inlays and four lozenge-shaped wedge escutcheons along the firestick. An interesting rudimentary gunsmith take on the mule ear ignition system. Measuring about 32" overall and good size for placing it under the wagon seat. Most likey New England made. When buying a gun always have it examined by a competent gunsmith before shooting.
