Description:
This is a very handsome and classy L.C. Smith Field Grade 20 gauge double barrel with all-original finishes.  At some point in it's life it was cut-down for a smaller statured shooter, perhaps a youngster or female, and now has 24" inch barrels and a length of pull of 14 & 1/8ths" inches to the end of the buttplate.  This is a classic sub-gauge L.C. Smith double, featuring a gloss blue finish on the barrels, triggerguard, trigger, safety, and forearm metal, with a color case-hardened finish on the receiver, action lever, and lower tang.  The original factory stock set is hand-checkered American Walnut with a gloss finish with a factory black pistol grip cap and buttplate, and the gun is fit with double triggers.  The "Armor Steel" fluid steel barrels still have choke in them despite being cut-down, measuring "modified" on a Galazan choke gauge, likely starting as 26" inch barrels choked "Full" and "Full".  The sights consist of an Ivory mid-bead and Ivory front sight bead mounted on a solid matted rib.  As you can see from the pictures, this L.C. Smith has a great look it.  The original factory blue finish on the barrels and elsewhere is still bright and attractive, showing only some superficial wear in areas and no pitting or bad spots.  Most of this blue wear is located on the rear chamber area of the barrels and the forearm metal as this is the natural balance point when carrying the gun in hand, and the rear tang section of the triggerguard from gripping the wrist.  The factory case colors on the receiver still look really good overall, as you can still see colors even in the exposed areas.  Most of the case-color wear is located on the bottom of the receiver, again where the gun is frequently carried when afield.  All of the factory markings on this shotgun are crisp and clear, and all of the serial-numbered parts are matching including the barrels, receiver, and forearm.  Both bores in this Field Grade are perfect, mirror-bright and free from any pitting, bulges, dents, or imperfections of any kind.  The 2.75" inch chambers are slick and smooth, and the muzzle end of the barrels was cut precisely and dressed like factory at a perfect 90 degrees. The factory matted solid rib is in excellent shape, perfectly matched and joined to the barrels with no separation or defects.  The stock set on this 20 gauge Field Grade is really exceptional, showing a lot more attractive figure and contrasting grain than most Field Grade stocks we have encountered.  Both the forearm and buttstock are free from any cracks, chips, repairs, or major dings/damage, showing only some minor handling/storage marks.  The checkered panels on the forearm and wrist are still crisp and clean, and the gloss clearcoat finish is still 95% intact with only a few tiny places of flaking around some of the metal to wood seams.  The factory pistol grip cap and buttplate are both still in great shape as well, free from any major damage, cracks, or repairs, and tight to the wood with no wiggle.  The stock is cast a for right-handed shooter and the drop measures 1.25" inches at the comb and 2 & 1/8th" inches at the heel.  The action on this L.C. Smith is very tight and perfectly "on-face".  The action lever still sits well to the right of the safety as well, showing that the locking lugs are just barely broken-in and still have 80 to 90% of their service life intact.  All of the controls on this shotgun are in perfect working order, including both triggers, the safety, and the automatic lifters.  There is no doubt that this L.C. Smith will still function just as reliably today as the day it left the factory when new.  If you have been looking for a 20 gauge L.C. Smith Field Grade shotgun already fitted perfectly for a youth or lady, here is your chance at a very handsome gun in excellent mechanical condition.
