German ANSCHUTZ Zella Percussion DOUBLE BARREL Percussion Shotgun Antique
Legendary Germanic Gunmaking Family!
Here we present an antique German Anschutz Double Barrel Percussion Side by Side Shotgun, made circa the early-19th century in Zella. This would have been very handy to carry and load for the forester or hunter. This would have been the epitome of a practical German shotgun that would have been used to put food on the table or protect the homestead from unwanted intruders, including both man and beast.
This one was originally made in the flintlock system and was converted at some point in the 1840s or 1850s. The frizzen springs were utilized for the nipple covers. The left spring is now absent. This shotgun features a shapely stock and the maker’s name “Ch. Anschutz/in Zella” on the top of the barrels.
The overall condition is good. The action on this example is strong. The bores have dimmed. There is a ding at the muzzle of the right barrel. This example sports a solid stock with the expected dents and dings. A very handsome Germanic shotgun for above the mantle!
