Description:
Mario Beschi Best O/U 28 Gauge, Torcoli Engraved –Excellent Plus
(World-renown Master Engraver Manrico Torcoli)

Overall Description Extra Lusso Boxlock: With 2 ¾” chambers, the 26" over and under barrels have a hand-filed matted-ventilated-rib with two white beads choked Modified & Full, inscribed Mario Beschi, Gardone V.T. Italy (V.T. for Val Trompe).

Action: One of the strongest points of this gun is its remarkable action which is a takeoff of the great action invented for the Boss over and under. Inside the receiver, there are clever trunnions on each side of the action which fit the hinge bites on the sides of the lower barrel to create the action’s hinge and to allow the frame to be scarcely taller than the stacked barrels themselves.  This is taken from the famous Boss system. Adding to that, there is a fastening bolt that protrudes out of the base of the breech face, controlled by the gun’s top lever that locks up with a full width groove at the base of the barrel block, again like a Boss fastener that catches the front edge of the mono block of the barrel flat. This is a very high-quality action design usually only found on guns costing $50,000 or more.

Metal finish: The receiver is coin-finished with a hold-open top lever that is blued. The other parts that are blued are: barrels, Deeley & Edge forearm release, two forearm escutcheons, forearm iron, manual safety, trigger bow and long lower tang tied down with two engraved screws. Overall fit and finish are best-gun quality.

The gunmaker's name is in gold on the underside of the receiver, the serial number is in gold on the long-tang trigger guard, and the safety is indicated with a gold S for its manual top tang safety.

Stock: The straight English grip stock is mated with a field forend in classic styling with generous hand-cut point-pattern checkering, aligned at two points on the stock and coming together with two points for the plush patterns of the forend. The wood is fancy European walnut with rich dark reddish brown color and nice figure.  In addition to the inlaid Deeley-release, there are two detailed sculptured escutcheons inlaid to secure the forearm iron. The stock is oil-finished and measures 14 3/8" pull from its gold-plated single non-selective mechanical trigger to its leather covered recoil pad. The drop of comb is 1 ½ " and the drop at heel is 2 3/8" with 3/8” cast-off for the right hand. Weight: 5lbs, 15oz. Built 1986.

Engraving: But where this gun excels beyond its maker’s remarkable design and craftsmanship is the fact that world renown Italian engraver Manrico Torcoli has exquisitely hand-engraved this high-art gun with fine bulino game scenes of two ruffed grouse on the right side of the receiver and two cock pheasants flushing on the left, surrounded by phenomenal deeper-cut acanthus scroll that is executed to the highest level by the master engraver. Torcoli is best known to be the best engraver for this combination of bulino style game scenes and phenomenal scroll work. This is a true work of art available at a fraction of the cost of the engraving alone.  Torcoli regularly signed his work with his childhood nickname, Memi, standing in for his full name Manrico Torcoli. His signature can be seen on the right receiver wall in the bottom right.

Condition: Retaining 99%+ barrel blue, the gun is dead tight on the frame with excellent bores and its ejectors are in perfect time. Comes with maker’s case.

Price: $8,950.00.
