Description:
"Spencer Sporting .56-46 caliber rifle. Serial #353, .56-46 Spencer, 28" round barrel. About very good bore showing frosting, oxidation and strong rifling throughout. The metal surfaces of this rifle have worn to gun-metal overall with areas of darker gray oxidation, freckling, pinprick pitting, dings and small tool marks scattered throughout. The marking on the top of the action has softened some but remains quite clear. The straight grip walnut stock and forend remain in good overall condition displaying nice figure and well defined edges on its fluted comb. There are areas of worn finish and small dings, chips, abrasions and handling marks throughout, along with a 1" chip at the rear right side corner of the forend, a 4½" older repaired crack running from the top of the wrist to the right side lockplate and four additional small hairline cracks below the lockplate. The buttstock is fitted rather shy of the frame and exhibits a very little bit of play. The half cock notch is no longer functional and there is a small crack on the left side of the chamber. The hammer is still quite crisp at full cock and the mechanism appears to be fully functional. The folding ladder rear sight and front blade sight are present. The rear of the frame is drilled for the tang sight that unfortunately, is missing. The magazine tube is present. The barrel and frame are numbered alike, along with all of the other major components matching by assembly number “335". This Spencer sporting rifle is a good example of a well-used but honest piece.
