BRITISH GEORGE III FLINTLOCK BRASS BARRELED MILITIA OFFICER’S PISTOL BY JOHN MILES OF LONDON & PHILADELPHIA CA. 1810-20. 15” o/a with 9” octagon .54 caliber smoothbore barrel with London proofs at the left breech. Original flint with all the original lock parts except the hammer screw which is on old replacement. Lock signed ‘MILES” for London maker John Miles who moved to Philadelphia after the War of 1812 and set up as a gunmaker in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and became a well know military arms contractor to the States of Pennsylvania and Virginia. Very handsome overall with engraved mounts and barrel engraved “LONDON”. Original walnut stock in good condition and hickory ramrod. Working order and good bore. Type carried by mounted American Militia Officer’s in pairs in saddle holsters. Nice example by a famous London and later Philadelphia maker.
