Description:
The L.C. Smith Gun company is famous for its many high-quality shotguns. One of these was the Single Barrel Trap (SBT) gun, which like most other L.C. Smith shotguns, was available in different grades. More SBT guns (1,470 total) were built in what is known as the Specialty Grade than any other; one gun in this grade was finished by the L.C. Smith Gun Company in 1948 after Hunter Arms production stopped at 1,469 in 1940. The Specialty was built as a mid-grade gun selling for $133 in 1927 allowing potential buyers many options from which to choose: different stock dimensions of a full, half or straight grip and 30, 32 and 34 inch long barrels made of Nitro Steel. Standard features include two Lyman ivory sights, an ejector, ventilated rib, a beavertail forearm and recoil pad. Engraving patterns usually consist of a sitting dog on the left of the frame and a sitting bird on the right, both surrounded by foliage and moderate scroll. The present SBT Specialty Grade is in good shape given its age of 102 as of 2021. There is some light pitting in the receiver in and less so on the barrel, which retains most of its bluing. The color case hardening on the receiver is mostly gone, which is standard fare for most color case hardened firearms. The wood furniture is in great shape with only minor handling wear. The barrel has some very minor scratch marks on the right hand side. The bore is in great shape and the action locks up tightly. This would make a nice addition to any L.C. Smith collection.
