The No. 1 Remington single shot vest pocket pistol was made from circa 1865 to 1888. Note that the hammer also functions as the breechblock. The 3.25"" round 22 Short barrel with octagon breech is integral to the frame. The bore is fair with rifling erosion. The finish is a mix of original nickel mixed with pinpoint pitting. The top of the frame is marked REMINGTONS ILION N over PATENT OCT.1.1861.. The serial number, 10878, is on the bottom of the barrel. The walnut grips are fine with very little wear. The action functions correctly. These interesting saw handle vest pocket deringers should be in any Remington or deringer collection.
