This is an all-matching numbered revolver that has retained approximately 50% of the original brushed blue finish, with the balance freckled plum-brown. Additionally, there is fairly bright silvering along the high edges and some minor surface scratches on the sides of the frame. Some dents are present on the sides of the muzzle as well. The revolver has numerous Broad Arrow property stamps, “8 09" issue date on the topstrap, along with a struck out "1 / S.A.M.R. / 110" unit stamp on the backstrap (1st South African Mounted Riflemen / 110). Double arrow civilian sale stamps are present on the frame and barrel as well. The checkered hard rubber, Broad Arrow marked grips are in fine shape with some minor flattening of the points, as well as a few minor scratches and handling blemishes on either panel. The lock-up is still tight and the mechanism functions flawlessly. The South African Mounted Riflemen were formed in 1913, and were the successors to the Cape Mounted Riflemen, a military unit that acted as mounted police in peacetime. During World War 1 they fought in German South-West Africa, and were also deployed against the Rand Rebellion in 1922. This is a very good example of a desirable Boer War Webley model, with a fantastic South African unit marking.
