Description:
This is an early Model 1892 rifle in 25-20. It has a 24” octagon barrel and a full magazine tube. The rifle was made in 1896. It was originally fitted with a 30" octagon barrel, but was later refitted with the current 24" barrel. Since the barrel is stamped "Model 92," indicating that it was replaced sometime after 1919, when that particular designation came into use. The rifle's serial number is 58193. The lever and hammer are case hardened and retain about 80% of their colors. The receiver and the forend cap appear to have been originally case hardened, but have lost their colors and are now a fairly uniform gray. The barrel and magazine tube retain about 90% of their original bluing. There are some dings and light scratches in the metal. The wood on the gun is in good condition with some dings and light scratches. The forend is beautifully hand checkered in a non-Winchester pattern, indicating professional work but not by the factory. The checkering is well cut and shows little wear. The butt stock has been refinished. The bore is clean, showing defined lands and grooves. The muzzle is well crowned. The lettering is sharp and legible. The action on this rifle is excellent.
