Description:
An original ambrotype of a framed set of daguerreotypes of 12, Mexican War era, military band members in uniform holding their instruments. Eleven are holding wind instruments, and the twelfth is a drummer. The uniform buttons, hat badges and shoulder insignia were hand colored in gold. This image was probably taken sometime between the mid 1850’s and the mid 1860’s, as tin types soon replaced the ambrotype process. The image is cased within an embossed leather case with a deep maroon embossed velvet interior.
Case: 4.78" x 3.84"
Image: 4.2" x 3.2" (1/4 Plate)
Condition: Image is very clear and much better than our photographs show – Case leather is a bit scuffed, especially at the edges and corners and the hinge has split – Both latches are intact
