Description:
This 410 English double was purchased by Charles and Arthur Wesson of Brighton England as a barreled action in the white from Auguste Francotte in Belgium as he was one of the only manufacturers that was producing a 410 on a small action. Most gunmakers were using a 20 Ga. Action and putting rather heavy barrels on them. The Francotte 410 is known as the model 1923 and was made with 2” chambers. In England it was opened up to the current 2 ½” chambers and stocked, finished and engraved. It was probably a special order gun. It has on the water table and bottom of the barrels both the Leige, Belgium proof marks and the English proof house marks showing the new chambering. All imported guns sold in England have to be proofed and are also stamped “Not English Make”. The Accompanying trade label is an actual period, case label. It was probably ordered for a lady or youth and as is often seen with English guns, a very well made 5/8" checkered, ebony Butt piece was added somewhere down the line. LOP is now 14 1/4". With 26 1/2" barrels weighs 4 1/2 Lbs. Marked Choke 104 on both barrels. Barrels are mint and shiny.Wood in excellent condition with minor handling marks, retains some color case.  Bluing is 95%.
