SOLD to MARK The New York Man *** This is a beautiful Merkel 303E Deluxe two barrel set from 1954. It certainly has the features that set it apart and make it a collection quality shotgun. Considered to be one of the best post war Merkels ever made it exhibits wonderful balance and beautiful workmanship. The Kersten patent double lump extensions ensure a tight lock up. The Arabesque hand engraving on all areas of the gun is flawlessly executed and a great example of old world craftsmanship. The darkly colored walnut stock has gorgeous figure on both sides and measures 14-1/4" from the first trigger to the leather covered recoil pad. The three piece forends are nicely made and perfectly checkered as well. The 28" (71 cm) Bohler Stahl barrels have a solid raised rib with perfect bores and feature 2-3/4" chambers and are choked Mod/Imp Cyl. The second set was added in October 1960, is 25-5/8" (65 cm) and they are choked cylinder and IC. It also has cocking indicators on either side of the frame so you'll know when the gun has been fired. Of course a gun of this grade features a hand detachable sidelock action. This is a excellent example of the quality of Merkel's post war production.
