Description:
SOLD pending receipt of funds       Colt Model 1902 Military Automatic .38 ACP caliber 6 inch barrel, blue finish, swivel lanyard ring on bottom left side of grip.  Checkered black hard rubber grips.  SN = 40,458  Serial number range = complicated.  Serial numbers started oddly, the first 300 pistols being numbered 15001–15200, then working backward from 15000–14900.  Continuing backwards from 1903 into 1907 with serial numbers 14899–11000.  In 1907 there commenced a serial run of 15201–15999, then production serial numbers stabilized, in late 1907, starting at 30,200 and continuing to the end of production in 1928 at 43,266.  Manufactured between 1902 and 1929.  This gun was made in 1918.  A total of 18,068 were made.  Original round stub hammer was changed to a low spur hammer in 1908. The 1902 "Military" model was introduced with a new style of front serration, a densely checkered area on the front of the slide.  In 1906, the checkered front was replaced by the more familiar vertical cut serrations on the rear of the slide.  The Model 1902 was developed by famous American firearms designer John Browning using his "parallel ruler" barrel attachment design.  The Model 1902 was not a new design, but rather an incremental improvement upon the nearly identical model M1900.  The 1902 Military Model featured a square and lengthened grip frame with an additional round in the magazine.  Bottom of magazine is stamped "CAL .38 COLT".
