EUROPEAN Antique PINFIRE 14 Gauge Double Barrel SxS HAMMER Shotgun
ENGRAVED 14 Gauge Side by Side
Here we present an antique Pinfire Double Barrel Side by Side Hammer Shotgun, manufactured circa the 1850s. This shotgun is nicely engraved with checkered stocks. The pinfire cartridge was invented by Casimir Lefaucheux in 1836 and is considered to be the first self-contained firearm cartridge. It enjoyed a relatively long life compared to other cartridges developed only a few years later.
This example showcases floral engravings on the locks and frame. The stock is solid. The actions are strong, and the bores are dim. A brown patina has formed over the twist barrels. Here is a shotgun for display above the mantle, or a wall hanger in the office!
