MEXICAN WAR AND CIVIL WAR SPRINGFIELD U.S. MODEL 1842 PERCUSSION MUSKET DATED 1846. 42” smoothbore .69 caliber barrel with Springfield proofs at the left breech. Lock stamped “EAGLE/US” and “SPRING/FIELD/1846”. Butt plate tang stamped “US”. Stock with two excellent Ordnance Inspector’s cartouches. Original sling swivels. Left side of butt carved in the Confederate manner “IM/A/X”. All original including the ramrod and very good overall with the original worn grey patina. Stock very good with wear and signs of battle use. Working order and good bore. Mexican War dated and this model still in use during the Civil War particularly by the Confederacy. Nice all original example with early two war date.
